As some may know I took a trip on the cheap to NY City this week. I rode the "China" bus and stayed at the Carlton Arms Hotel (http://www.carltonarms.com/) located in the center of Manhattan. When I arrived at the hotel I had my choice between 1-B and 15-D...I chose 1-B. Visit the website and click the "rooms" tab - you can see photos of all 58 rooms and several of the hallways. Art as you've never seen it! Total price for transportation and two nights lodging was $237. I walked most places but did take the #1 subway north to Central Park and then south to catch the Staten Island Ferry. I like the city more than I expected. People were friendly and every turn brought new sights and sounds. The park was pretty incredible and seeing the city from 70 stories up on Rockerfeller Center was an awsome sight at sunset. I've posted 36 photos (with captions) on Snapfish. You'll need an account but it takes less than a minute to set that up: http://www2.snapfish.com/share/p=999141229297016489/l=455189477/g=134794933/otsc=SYE/otsi=SALB

This is awesome! I only went once myself for a 3 day week-end but I did visit the Guggenheim and the Metropolitan. It was SO COLD! But I walked everywhere or almost, that's the best way to see the city! Thanks for sharing your pictures! The artwork is amazing. Love the tree houses too!

Thanks, Bill. So glad you had a great trip.
The girls and I wanted to go for a few days before Christmas, about 5 years ago. Jim did not have any desire to go to NYC, but he caved to 3 nagging women. He, like you, Bill, was so impressed and had a great time. Everyone was so helpful and friendly. Having always heard about NYers not wanting to give you the time of day. I wondered if attitudes changed after 911.?.
Bill, I was thinking about you during that time you went to NY. Glad you enjoyed your trip.
Great pictures.
I love going to NY too. Everyone who can get a chance visit NY during the holidays is a chance in a life time. Was there last year during the holidays.
Never drive your self into NY.
Big mistake.
Visited the Rockefeller Center, Metropolitan. Love the Broadway shows.
You guys are right NY has changed since 9-11.
People are more friendly and don’t hesitate to help you out.
See you at Franks.

Bill,
I am so glad you had the experience. I grew up 20 miles north in White Plains, and if you can believe it, my mom let us teenagers take the train into the city for the day! We would get off at GC station and hoof up 42nd St to fifth ave and look at the Christmas decorations, eat at the automat, get in line for a game show at the CBS studios and take the train home! How life has changed! I am glad you enjoyed the ride!
