Richmond Folk Festival

The first Richmond Folk Festival happened this past weekend. The past 3 years was the National Folk Festival, which started us off. What beautiful weather we enjoyed, along with some enlightening and exciting acts. For those of you who don't know, this is a multicultural event. My favorite may have been the Japanese Drummers, though we did not get a photo. A Mayan group performed a sundance from the top of a 90 foot pole. They spiraled down from ropes tied to their ankles. A 72 year old man stood atop the pole playing flute. Then he slid down one of the ropes. Amazing!

The Cree Indians were pretty cool. The main guy was a stand up comic. He had the audience rolling when he talked of all the stereotyping of indians in old movies. He said in all movies you would hear the same drumming: BUM bum bum bum, BUM bum bum bum. That would mean indians were approaching - no matter what tribe, they had the same drumming.

Luz and Waldo did some terrific Salsa dancing to a Puerto Rican band. They are really in tune with each other.

We enjoyed Kathy's company Friday night. She had to work a wedding for Lee's company, Freeze Frame, the next day.

We saw Bill a couple of times. He was working and was hosting the Dan Tyminski Band. He had a pretty hectic first night with Dan having his guitar broken just prior to his performance.

We kept catching glimpses of that illusive Jaybird.

Big shout out to Wayne and Susan for letting Vickie and I stay at their awesome flat- Sorry about the puke and pee in the corners :) My favorite moment of the WHOLE festival was Jimmy dancing in Luz's car to The Black-eyed Pea's "My Hump, My Hump" Jimmy's gonna get you drunk off his sexy New Kent hump.....

I had a blast with you guys at the Festival Friday night! Dancing with David Cooley to the Zydeco and Reggae music was so much fun! Wish I could have stayed longer, but duty called, and I had to run off to work for Freeze Frame, which has been so much fun as well. Had my first night of several problems, but managed to take care of them all and still have a very successful event, to which Lisa Anne said to me, "Kathy, you're the Bomb!" Soooo proud of myself! : )

Too cool, Kathy! I can't wait to hear about it! You are the Bomb!!!

That car seat dancing WAS Hilarious, Nathan. I'm going to have Luz burn me a copy of the CD. Every future road trip should have Jim entertain us! He hates dancing on a dance floor. I'm going to start pulling a chair out in the center, so he can show off his stuff.

I have told y'all that was an "in the moment thing" likely to never be seen again, so savor the memory. Carolyn, I can't believe you would consider making a spectacle of your loving husband. Remember what I said, "What happened in the car stays in the car".

OMG…Too funny guys.New name for Jim…"Sexy New Kent Hump"
Nate and vic, you guys are going to have to go easy on the drinking next time.
You younglings just can’t handle it like us older adults.
Carolyn, I will have that CD ready for you next time I see you,
with some other lovely little hump tunes on it.
Besides dancing on chair, there are other inventive things you can do on a chair to show his humps. Sorry Jim, did you really think that was going to stay in the car?
I am finally seeing other sides of Jimmy. And loving it.
